The Witham MP, Priti Patel has formally opened the Lakelands Primary School in Stanway.  At a special ceremony attended by Paul Banks – CEO of Chelmsford Learning Partnership, Ruth Bird, Chair of Trustees, Roger Blundell – Chair of Governors, and the Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr Kevin Bentley, Priti formally declared the School open, after many postponements caused by the pandemic.

After a ribbon cutting followed by the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the occasion, Priti was given a tour of the facilities and grounds by Head Teacher Koulla Anslow, followed by a short performance by some of the pupils, prepared especially for her visit.

Commenting after her visit, Priti said: “I am very pleased to have finally opened the School, after so many postponements due to Covid.  I am always particularly delighted to see new schools opening in my constituency.  Education is a subject close to my heart as many people will be aware from my Get Witham Reading initiative for schools that is now in its tenth year.

“It was a delight to be here and to both talk to the children and see them performing.  I am very grateful to Lakelands Primary School for its kind hospitality which has made my visit very special.  I will be keeping in touch in the future and watching the School’s progress with great interest.”

Head Teacher, Koulla Anslow said: “It was great pleasure to have Priti here and to be able to show her our facilities and some of the work our pupils have been doing as well as talk her through our plans for the future.  I am also grateful to all of the other dignitaries who joined us for our opening and helped to make it extra special.

“I am very proud and privileged to have had the rare opportunity to create and then open a school from the very beginning and to set the highest standards and expectations from day one.”

The Lakelands Primary School has up to 420 pupils and is part of the Chelmsford Learning Partnership, an emerging multi-academy trust.  The Trust strongly believes in the ethos of working together to provide an outstanding education for every child in its family of schools.  CLP also believes in its schools having their own identity and each one operates with its own autonomous head teacher, leadership team, staff and local governing body.
